Scope

The purpose of the ASA youth point system is to enhance the ASA program for our registered teams. The point system should lead to increased ASA team registration across the Association and provide point tournament host sites the ability to offer participating teams a valuable commodity (points) and an additional reason to play in ASA tournaments. In order to participate in the Illinois ASA State Tournament, all ASA teams must play in a minimum of one (1) sanctioned ASA point tournament.

The point system will be a benefit to our ASA teams by:

  • Using points to seed teams into the ASA State Tournaments. The higher the number of points, the better the seed.
  • Awarding direct berth(s), when available, to the ASA National and Northern National Tournaments. When additional berths to these tournaments are available, we will use the season point's leaders to determine what team gets the berth.
  • Ranking teams in the ASA Region #10 zone by age group. This will allow you to see how your team compares to others from Region #10 (Illinois ASA, Chicago Metro, Indiana, Kentucky, Cincinnati Metro)

In order to ensure that the ASA Points System is truly an ASA benefit, no ASA Point Tournament may be run in conjunction with any other softball organization. For example, no ASA Point Tournament can be run at the same time, or in conjunction with, an NSA World Qualifier or a USSSA National Qualifier.

Mechanics

Teams receive and earn points for every sanctioned point tournament entered.

The following is the breakdown of points for teams that enter sanctioned point tournaments:

  • Each team will receive 1 point for entering the tournament
  • 1st place team will receive an additional 10 points
  • 2nd place team will receive an additional 8 points
  • 3rd place team will receive an additional 6 points
  • 4th place team will receive an additional 4 points
  • 5th place team will receive an additional 2 points

In single elimination tournaments the top four teams will receive points as allocated above. Teams that lose in the quarterfinals (teams 5-8) earn two points each.

All U18, U16, U14 and U12 point tournaments shall have a minimum of eight (8) teams participate to qualify for ASA championship points. All U18, U16, U14 and U12 ASA sanctioned point tournaments with less than eight (8) participating teams will receive the minimum of one point per team entered. This allows smaller areas to host a point tournament and allows teams to earn the one point required for entry into the State Tournament. In this case, no championship points are awarded. All U18, U16, U14 and U12 point tournaments with sixteen (16) or more teams shall award double points for each team.

All U10 point tournaments shall have a minimum of four (4) teams participate to qualify for ASA championship points. All U10 ASA sanctioned point tournaments with less than four (4) teams participating will receive the minimum of one point per team entered. This allows smaller areas to host a point tournament and allows teams to earn the one point required for entry into the State Tournament. In this case, no championship points are awarded. All U10 point tournaments with eight (8) or more teams shall award double points for each team.

All ASA teams that participate in large, ASA-sanctioned tournaments, outside of Region #10 (e.g. Colorado, Hall of Fame, and Exposure Tournaments) will receive five (5) points. Prior notification of tournament entry and proof of participation are required before points will be posted.AWARDING TOURNAMENTS

The ASA will offer sanctioned point tournaments to tournament directors and organizations that agree to put on first class tournaments and abide by ASA rules. Each Tournament site will pay a $12.00 ASA sanction fee for each team entered. Each individual ASA Youth Committee will determine tournament sites in their area as requested. Special consideration will be given to:

  1. Areas deemed to be hardship areas, or areas where the ASA has a difficult time registering teams because of competition from other softball organizations
  2. The previous years' Points Tournaments who comply with the Point Reporting System and forward the $12.00 Sanction Fee to the ASA Youth Program.

All Point Tournament requests shall be submitted to the Youth Committee by September 15th. Tournaments within the same area cannot compete for the same age group point tournament on the same weekend without the approval of the Youth Committee. Decisions of the Youth Committee are final.
